就這麼一個短短的射擊的故事，在作者玩文字遊戲之後，變成一個堆疊的詩歌。而在繪者的巧心之下，變成一本有趣又有寓意的堆疊繪本。好像小孩子在玩積木一樣，一個積木一個積木往上堆，最後，大手一揮，把整個堆好的積木作品破壞。最後一頁是作者和繪者的給讀者的暗示：STOP WAR，世界和平！

◎文字押韻

這首英文歌有押韻，可以以某種節奏或旋律大聲唸唸看，很好聽。

（原本是想要中文也押韻，所以試圖將各個軍官的名字改成和他帶來的東西可以押韻，所以『德令』、『長疱』、『小氣』等，你可以把他當成是軍官的名字，也可以把它當成是形容詞或是軍官的綽號，雙關語。 ）

◎玩遊戲：

我覺得這是一首可以拿來和孩子輪流念誦的詩歌。當然，大人小孩的角色可以互換。譬如：

大人：Corporal Farrell brought the barrel.

小孩： Corporal Farrell brought the barrel,

◎文字往上堆還是往下加？

如果依照時間的先後順序的話，文字應該是往下加，而不是往上堆。

我覺得應該是

只是往上堆應該是作者刻意安排的文字遊戲效果。有『加』的感覺。有『堆疊』的感覺，和畫面的圖像越來越多，相互呼應。

可以自己從頭唸唸看，往上堆和往下加，有什麼不同的味道？

我覺得作者原來的設計，往上加時，新加入的句子，馬上就會被重複唸過一遍，特別是二人輪流唸時，比較有趣。

若是往下加時，雖然時間先後比較合理，但是新加入的文字並不會馬上重複到。

◎畫面：局部和整體的切換和堆疊

這本繪本的節奏，可以說是二拍子。畫面是以局部、整體、局部、整體、局部、整體的節奏在呈現。每一次整體畫面出來時，東西就越來越多，左下角的軍官人頭也越來越多。堆疊到一個高峰，FIRE，出現一個滿頁的紅色的、破壞性的大爆炸的高潮，然後，一切歸於平靜。

鳥兒在大砲槍口築巢、蜘蛛在大砲槍身結網，花草半覆蓋住大砲，象徵和平日子的到來。

◎裝飾藝術風格

畫家幫這七位軍官設計七套華麗的軍裝。每一個軍官有華麗的頭盔或是帽子，有的身穿燕尾服軍裝，還有許多的配件：如背包、睡袋、雨傘、白手套、佩劍等等。七個軍官，七種造型：有個軍官臉上有疤，有個軍官只剩下一條腿，有個軍官成了獨眼龍等等。

不管是軍官還是槍、大砲、馬車、鼓、馬匹、頭盔等等，每一個都加上幾何圖形的線條，或是漩渦線條、或是斜線、或是平行四邊形、長條形、三角形，裝飾意味濃厚。

畫家刻意將底色留白，讓讀者更可以注意到、感受到軍官和大砲等等的華麗裝飾。如果底色背景太過於複雜，反而會顯得雜亂而不聚焦。

◎猜猜看，為什麼來過之後的軍官，在畫面中，只剩下一個頭？

我猜是每一個軍官來了，把他帶了的設備裝置妥當之後，或是完成他的任務之後，就先躲到壕溝去。
